NCC Urges Telecom Academy Creation to Fill Skill Gaps in Nigerian Telecom Sector

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is advocating for the establishment of a Telecom Academy to bridge the skill gaps in the telecom sector. Aminu Maida, the Executive Commissioner of the NCC, highlighted the urgent need for collaboration among telecom operators and stakeholders to address the shortage of indigenous talent in the industry.

Despite job creation since the industry's liberalization in 2001, there is a significant gap in advanced digital skills required by employers. Dr.

Maida emphasized the importance of addressing this challenge to ensure the sector's growth and sustainability. The call for intervention comes amidst concerns over the overreliance on expatriates and the need to retain local talent in the telecom industry.
