NCSCN Demands Independent Probe into NSCDC Officer's Death

The Nigerian Civil Society Council (NCSCN) has urged relevant authorities to conduct an independent and transparent investigation into the death of Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agada Levi Agada. During a press briefing in Abuja, NCSCN Executive Director Ambassador Bless Akinlosotu stressed the importance of a comprehensive investigation to restore public confidence in the criminal justice system.

This call for intervention follows allegations involving NSCDC personnel and illegal mining activities, particularly concerning Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Abdulmaje Abisoy Oyewumi, who is facing trial related to these allegations. The NCSCN highlighted that the circumstances surrounding Agada's death must remain the focal point of the ongoing investigation, urging that neither individuals nor institutions be defended or indicted prematurely.

The council also called for a review of the search conducted at Oyewumi's residence and emphasized the need for an independent examination of evidence related to the case.
