NCWS Advocates for Women's Leadership Inclusion in Nigeria

The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) in Nigeria urged for greater inclusion of women in political leadership and decision-making during an aerobic exercise and talk on peace and security held in Abuja. NCWS President Princess Edna Azura stated that women are crucial for peace, democracy, national unity, and sustainable development, highlighting their under-representation in elective positions and decision-making roles.

Azura appealed for family support for women’s leadership aspirations and called on political parties to eliminate barriers to female participation. She announced the first Nigerian Women, Peace and Democracy Summit scheduled for September 29, 2026, in Abuja, aimed at gathering over 3,000 delegates to discuss democracy, governance, and women's leadership.

The event also focused on women's physical and mental wellbeing, with participants engaging in aerobic exercises. Princess Ada Okeke, a participant, praised the exercise's benefits, while NCWS National Secretary Dr Bolatito Alabi emphasized the importance of regular exercise for women’s health.
