NAWOJ Launches WINSEC 2026 to Honor Women in Security

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has unveiled the inaugural Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026, aimed at recognizing significant contributions to national security and advocating for greater inclusion of women in Nigeria's security framework. At a press briefing in Abuja, NAWOJ National Chairperson Hajia Aishatu Ibrahim stated that the initiative seeks to celebrate excellence and enhance collaboration among security institutions, policymakers, and the media.

Award recipients were chosen through a rigorous screening process involving security agencies and an independent verification committee. Ibrahim emphasized the need for increased participation of women in combating violent extremism and crime, citing cultural barriers that discourage women, particularly in northern Nigeria, from pursuing security careers.

She mentioned Aisha Gombe from Adamawa State as a recipient, recognized for her bravery in fighting Boko Haram insurgents while pregnant. WINSEC aims to provide a platform for discussing the challenges faced by female security personnel and proposing practical solutions.
