NDC Demands Investigation into Attack on Members in Enugu

On 14 September 2026, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) called for an immediate investigation by security agencies into an alleged attack on its members during a grassroots meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. The statement, signed by National Publicity Secretary Osa Director, described the incident as “dastardly” and unprovoked, claiming that state-sponsored thugs attacked members during the peaceful assembly.

The NDC emphasized that such violence is an affront to democracy and the constitutional right to freedom of association. The party criticized security agencies for their complacency, suggesting that their inaction has emboldened attackers.

The NDC also recalled previous attacks on its members in Imo State and accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu of being disturbed by the NDC's growing strength. The party warned against further violence and asserted its right to self-defense, stating that intimidation would not deter its mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
