NDC Denies Illegal Payment Claims Ahead of 2027 Election Race

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has refuted claims that party officials, including its national leader, solicited or accepted undisclosed payments from aspirants seeking party tickets for the 2027 general elections. In statements released this week through National Publicity Secretary Osa Director, the opposition party characterized the allegations as coordinated misinformation designed to undermine its standing before the polls.
According to the NDC's account, all money received from aspirants, members, and supporters—whether as levies, donations, or contributions—was deposited directly into designated party bank accounts. The party maintains that funds were managed by appropriate internal organs and that financial records will be made available as mandated by the Electoral Act.
The party also denied claims of favouritism in its candidate selection process. The NDC attributed its need for campaign funding to its status as a relatively young political organization without sitting presidents, governors, ministers, or other holders of elected office at federal or state levels.
Party leadership argued that as a new entity without access to state resources, it was constitutionally permitted to raise funds through member donations and stakeholder contributions to finance operations and election preparations. The party framed the allegations as originating from disgruntled elements seeking to damage its reputation as it gains political traction.
Director stated that the NDC remains committed to financial transparency and will pursue legal remedies against those spreading false information about the party's funding mechanisms and candidate selection procedures.
