NDLEA Arrests 101-Year-Old for Cannabis Dealing

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 101-year-old Esther Ogunmabo in Ilisan, Ogun State, on August 15, 2026, for allegedly dealing in cannabis. She was found with 90 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets and claimed to sell it to locals after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire.

The NDLEA stated that her daughter, living in Lagos, supplied the drugs every four days. Due to her age, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and placed on counselling, while her daughter was arrested.

The NDLEA also reported significant drug seizures worth over N4.4 billion across Nigeria, with operations conducted in Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, Ondo, Kwara, Oyo, Kano, and Abia states. The agency's crackdown included various drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine, and tramadol, highlighting a trend of older individuals being involved in drug trafficking.
