NDLEA Seizes Over 10,000kg of Drugs in Edo State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Edo State Command arrested 29 suspects and seized 10,359 kg of illicit drugs in April 2023. Mitchel Ofoyeju disclosed that the arrests included 19 males and 10 females, made during targeted raids and motorized patrols across various drug hotspots in the state.

The seizures comprised 7,245 kg of cannabis, 9,611 kg of psychotropic substances, 748.02 kg of tramadol, 444 kg of rohypnol, 252.2 kg of diazepam, 242.82 kg of bromazepam, and 36 kg of codeine syrup. Notably, on April 11, 2023, two articulated trucks were intercepted, one carrying 483 sacks of cannabis concealed among alcoholic beverages.

Another truck was flagged down on April 22, 2023, containing tramadol and other substances. The command's prosecuting unit has filed four new charges and secured five convictions, with 89 cases pending in the Federal High Court in Benin City.

Ofoyeju emphasized the NDLEA's commitment to dismantling drug trafficking cartels in Edo State.
