NDLEA Arrests Drug Trafficker Posing as Herbal Merchant

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 34-year-old Dunu Bethel Ebubechukwu on 4th September 2026, in Lagos, while he was posing as a herbal tea merchant. This arrest followed the interception of a 1.2kg cocaine shipment concealed in phone chargers, destined for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at a courier company in Lagos on 31st July 2026.

Mr Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, confirmed that Ebubechukwu had a history with the agency, having been previously convicted in 2011 for drug trafficking. A search of his residence revealed phone chargers similar to those used for concealing drugs.

Additionally, the NDLEA recovered significant quantities of other drugs, including 966,200 tablets of Tramadol and 57.80kg of Loud cannabis, during operations in various states. A 20,000-litre fuel tanker, suspected of being used for drug trafficking, was also intercepted in Ondo State.
