Tragic Deaths of Siblings Found Near River in Akure

On September 6, 2026, three siblings were discovered dead near a river on a farm in the Owena Military Barracks area of Akure. The children, identified as 11-year-old twins Joshua and Jacob Jonah, and their 5-year-old sister Blessing Jonah, had accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to the farm on Friday.

At some point, the children left the farm ahead of their father to return home but did not arrive. When Samuel returned home and found them missing, a search was initiated by family members, neighbors, and local residents, which continued overnight.

The following day, their bodies were located near the bank of a small river on the farm. Abayomi Jimoh, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the discovery and stated that the remains had been released to the family for burial while investigations into the cause of death were ongoing.

Jimoh also urged parents to closely monitor their children near water bodies to prevent similar tragedies.
