NDLEA Destroys 51 Hectares of Cannabis in Ekiti State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) destroyed 51 hectares of cannabis sativa plantations and arrested 281 suspects involved in illicit drug trafficking and abuse across Ekiti State over the past year. Rufu Aina, the Ekiti State Command head, disclosed these details on Thursday in Ado Ekiti, coinciding with the observance of World Drug Day on June 26.

The command has successfully prosecuted 50 suspects, with cases pending in the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti. The agency recovered a total of 6,337.517 kilograms of various illicit substances.

Aina emphasized the significant challenge posed by large-scale cannabis cultivation in several communities, which is often viewed as a source of income despite its illegal status. He commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his wife, Dr.

Olayemi Oyebanji, for their support in anti-drug campaigns. The NDLEA also conducted advocacy rallies and media campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse.
