NDLEA Discovers Cannabis Warehouse in Edo State

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, uncovered a four-bedroom bungalow in Illushi community, Esan South-east Local Government Area, allegedly used as a cannabis warehouse. This intelligence-led operation resulted in the recovery of 1,359 kilogrammes of cannabis and cannabis seeds.

Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, reported the seizure included 52 large bags of cannabis, three gallons of cannabis seeds, and an additional bag of seeds.

The recovered exhibits comprised 1,273 kg of cannabis and 86 kg of cannabis seeds. Two suspected drug traffickers were arrested: 45-year-old Ojore Onweze, found with 60 kg of cannabis, and 30-year-old George Agwumede, apprehended with 13 kg.

Ofoyeju emphasized the dangers of using residential houses for drug stockpiling and the agency's commitment to dismantling drug networks, while also strengthening collaboration with community leaders to combat drug abuse and trafficking.
