NDLEA Arrests Grandfathers Selling Drugs to Teens
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested two elderly suspects, identified as Obiora and Orji, for allegedly selling drugs to teenage students at Saint Sila Secondary School in Umuahia on June 19. The operation followed intelligence reports and led to the recovery of 4.64 kilograms of opioids, including tramadol and diazepam.
The NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, stated that the suspects were apprehended after school security personnel caught them supplying drugs to students. Two students, aged 15, admitted during interrogation that Orji regularly supplied drugs for resale to fellow students.
The NDLEA is prosecuting the elderly suspects and has initiated a counseling and rehabilitation program for affected students. Additionally, the agency reported a series of drug seizures and arrests across the country, including a significant operation in Lagos that intercepted 9.5 kilograms of synthetic cannabinoids and other drugs.
Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa, the agency's chairman, urged continued efforts in the nationwide drug control campaign.
