NEC Approves N83.2bn for Flood Mitigation in Nigeria

The National Economic Council (NEC) approved N83.2 billion to mitigate the impacts of flooding and climate-related emergencies across Nigeria. This decision was made during the 158th NEC meeting, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

He emphasized the need for proactive measures to address flooding issues, particularly during the rainy season. The council noted the importance of the Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) in managing disaster emergencies.

Shettima highlighted that the NEC should not only react to disasters but also implement preventive measures. He reiterated the administration's commitment to reforming the economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's leadership, aiming for visible results that improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians, especially vulnerable groups.

The council discussed the necessity of enhancing agricultural exports and ensuring compliance with international market standards to strengthen Nigeria's economy and reduce reliance on raw material exports.
