Two Dead, Three Rescued in Anambra Hostel Collapse

On Sunday night, a three-storey hostel building known as Elite Five Star Lodge collapsed in Amaokpala, near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The incident resulted in the confirmed deaths of two individuals, while three others were rescued and taken to the hospital.
Eyewitness Ifeoma reported a loud noise preceding the collapse, which caused panic among residents and students. A joint rescue team, including the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the National Emergency Management Agency, the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, the Anambra State Fire Service, and the Nigeria Police Force, arrived early Monday to conduct search and rescue operations.
By 6:55 p.m., the body of a male victim was recovered, adding to the previously confirmed female victim. Ndidi Omega, acting Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, stated that the rescue operation would continue until all debris was thoroughly searched.
