NANS Declares Emergency Over Hostel Conditions in Nigeria

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by President Babatunde Akintey, has declared a state of emergency concerning the poor conditions of hostels in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. Akintey described the state of student accommodation as deteriorating and unacceptable, emphasizing the need for safe living environments for students.

NANS plans to initiate efforts to improve hostel facilities and has resolved to relocate its national headquarters to Anambra State to better address these issues. Additionally, Akintey condemned the alleged unlawful detention of student leaders, specifically mentioning Nnamdi Aduma, the financial secretary of the association.

He called for due process to be followed in this matter and strongly criticized the illegal detention, asserting that NANS will continue to defend the rights and welfare of Nigerian students without intimidation.
