NERC Launches FONER to Enhance Electricity Regulation

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has inaugurated the Forum of Nigerian Electricity Regulators (FONER) with the objective of enhancing coordination and effectiveness in electricity regulation across Nigeria. During the inaugural meeting, which is part of a series of quarterly regulatory meetings, NERC Chairman Dr.

Musiliu Oseni described this initiative as a significant step towards Nigeria's transition to a multi-level electricity market. He emphasized the need for collaboration to prevent regulatory loopholes and to work together to avoid regulatory arbitrage.

The forum aims to drive key regulatory objectives, including fostering dialogue among stakeholders, promoting a harmonized approach to tariff setting, and protecting consumers. It will also serve as a consultative platform for electricity market reform and advance transparency and accountability among national regulatory benchmarks.

The leadership of FONER includes Dr. Oseni as Chairman, Engr.

Chijiok Okonkwo from Enugu State as Vice Chairman, and Aisha Mahmud from NERC as Secretary.
