Nigeria's LPG Supply Hits Record, Prices Remain High

In July 2026, Nigeria's cooking gas market saw a significant increase in domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply, reaching a record 5,332 tonnes per day, up from 5,100 tonnes in June. This increase, reported by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), marks the highest supply recorded in 13 months.

Local sources contributed 4,373 tonnes per day, accounting for approximately 82% of the total supply, while imports made up the remaining 18%. Notably, NLNG emerged as the largest supplier, providing 2,031 tonnes per day.

Despite the improved supply, retail prices for cooking gas remain elevated, ranging from N1,300 to N1,600 per kilogramme, down from a peak of N2,400. NLNG Managing Director Adeleye Falade attributed the price surge to supply shortages and distribution chain distortions, stating that the recommended retail price should be around N1,000 to N1,200 per kilogramme.

Consumers are now closely monitoring whether the increased supply will lead to further price reductions.
