FWF Demands N300,000 Minimum Wage from President Tinubu

The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has formally requested an increase in the federal minimum wage from N70,000 to N300,000, with a maximum salary of N1.5 million for Level 17 officers. This request was made in a letter dated September 2, 2026, signed by National Coordinator Andrew Emelieze and General Secretary Ogundele Ayodele, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the Senate President, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The FWF argued that the N70,000 minimum wage, established in 2024, has not been properly implemented, as workers reportedly received only a blanket N40,000 increase regardless of their grade level. The group described the current wage situation as an emergency, stating that federal workers are suffering financially, with some resorting to borrowing for transport and cooking with firewood due to the inability to afford gas.

The FWF proposed a detailed pay scale and also demanded payment of outstanding salaries, promotion arrears, and various allowances, alongside a call for an investigation into claims regarding the borrowing of workers' pension savings.
