Nigerians Criticize Tinubu Over Unfulfilled Promises

As the January 16, 2027 presidential election approaches, Nigerians are expressing dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu's administration, particularly regarding unfulfilled promises made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) prior to the 2023 election. President Bola Tinubu, who assumed office with the Renewed Hope Agenda, pledged to address issues such as insecurity, economic revitalization, job creation, and poverty reduction.

While Tinubu's administration claims to have made significant progress through economic reforms and infrastructure development, opposition figures argue that these policies have instead led to increased hardship for many Nigerians. The opposition specifically points to the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the local currency as detrimental actions.

According to the IMF's 2026 Article IV consultation, poverty in Nigeria reached 63% at the national poverty line. In 2022, Tinubu released an 80-page policy document outlining an eight-point agenda aimed at job creation and economic revival, yet many citizens continue to face economic challenges.
