New Terrorist Sect Emerges in Kebbi, Raises Security Concerns

A new terrorist sect reportedly linked to Malam has emerged in Kebbi State, raising alarms among local authorities. Colonel Danladi Ribah, during a town hall meeting with DIG Suleiman Muhammad Abdul, expressed concerns over the group's presence in Argungu Local Government Area.

The group was first detected by security agencies in Sokoto State, but its activities have now spread to Kebbi. Ribah noted that the sect has been operating for two years without significant attention from security agencies, which he deemed a serious threat.

The group is characterized by its recruitment of vulnerable youth and is known for its ritualistic practices. Although they do not carry heavy weapons, they pose a danger with light weapons and charms.

The Kebbi State Government is consulting with security agencies to address the situation, while Governor Nasir Idris continues to hold monthly security meetings to tackle banditry and criminal elements threatening the state. The Nigeria Police Force has also launched a Violent Crime Response Unit in Kebbi to enhance rapid response capabilities.
