NFF Apologizes to Tinubu Over Falcons' World Cup Setback

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) issued an apology to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian populace following the Super Falcons' inability to secure direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. NFF President Ibrahim Gusau delivered this apology in a statement on Tuesday, acknowledging the disappointment felt by millions of supporters during the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

He expressed gratitude for the Federal Government's support and recognized the previous achievements of the Super Falcons. Gusau specifically apologized to Tinubu, stating, “It is with genuine humility and regret that we acknowledge that we have not been able to repay that confidence.” He also extended apologies to the National Assembly, National Sports Commission, sponsors, stakeholders, and fans.

Despite the setback, Gusau noted that the Super Falcons still have a chance to qualify through the CAF play-off pathway and affirmed the NFF's commitment to assessing their preparations and operations to improve future outcomes.
