NFF Apologizes to Tinubu Over Super Falcons' WAFCON Failure

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) issued an apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian public following the Super Falcons' failure to secure direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. In a statement from its Communications Department on Tuesday, the NFF expressed deep regret over the disappointment caused by the team's performance.

NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau acknowledged the significant expectations placed on the defending African champions and extended a special apology to President Tinubu for the support shown by the Federal Government towards Nigerian sports, particularly women's football. The NFF noted that despite the setback, Nigeria's hopes for World Cup qualification remain alive through the CAF play-off pathway.

The federation pledged to mobilize resources to secure one of the available play-off tickets and emphasized the need for the team to regroup and approach the next stage with renewed determination.
