NFF to Announce New Super Falcons Coach Today

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to announce the new head coach of the Super Falcons in Abuja today, September 8, as the team prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games. This decision comes urgently due to an important Olympic qualifier on the horizon.

A source from the National Sports Commission indicated the necessity for a new coach, stating, “You know we have an important Olympic qualifier, so we need a new coach, who will be announced any moment now.” An NFF official confirmed that while the appointment is imminent, it is uncertain if there will be a formal unveiling. The identity of the new coach remains undisclosed, but all formalities for the appointment have reportedly been completed.

This development follows the dismissal of Justine Madugu and his technical crew after Nigeria's quarter-final exit at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they lost 1-0 to Cameroon, ending their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Candidates for the position include former coach Thomas Dennerby, 2016 WAFCON-winning coach Florence Omagbemi, American coach Randy Waldrum, and Imama Amapakabo.
