Dennerby Leads Race for Super Falcons Head Coach Role

Thomas Dennerby is reportedly the top contender to return as head coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) aims to finalize a new technical crew ahead of the team’s 2028 Olympic qualifiers. The NFF's interim leadership, led by Emmanuel Ikpeme, is working to complete the appointment before Nigeria's match against Comoros in October.

This move follows the NFF's decision in August to relieve Justine Madugu and his technical crew after the Falcons failed to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco and missed the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Dennerby, who previously managed the Super Falcons from January 2018 to September 2019, led the team to the 2018 WAFCON title and their first knockout stage appearance at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The NFF plans to appoint a new technical team before the Olympic qualifiers, with Bukola Olopade confirming the urgency of the situation. The Falcons will begin their qualifying campaign against Comoros, who recently advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.
