NFF to Train 10 Referees in VAR Operations by Year-End

Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has committed to training 10 Nigerian referees in Video Assistant Referee (VAR) operations as part of efforts to support match officiating in the country. This pledge was made on Wednesday during a meeting with the new executive team of the Nigeria Referees Association, led by Acting President Kelechi Mejuobi, at the NFF secretariat in Abuja.

The meeting followed the recent demise of former president Sani Zubair. Gusau emphasized the need for improved computer literacy among referees and reiterated plans to enroll the referees in VAR training by the end of the year.

He expressed concerns over the recruitment of referees, suggesting that individuals above a certain age may not be suitable for the role. The NFF is determined to address issues of poor officiating in domestic leagues and is prepared to support referees in their development.
