NGX Market Wrap 19-May-2026 | Plus234Feed
The Nigerian Exchange closed at 251,635.42 points on 19 May 2026, with mixed sentiment as gains in cocoa and aviation stocks were offset by sharp declines in consumer staples and logistics. Market activity remained steady with ₦32.1 billion in traded value across 703.9 million shares.
The NGX wrapped a mixed session today, with the ASI settling at 251,635.42 points as divergent sector performances created a seesaw effect across the market. While the index showed resilience, the intraday dynamics revealed shifting investor sentiment between growth and defensive positions.
The gainers' list was led by FTNCOCOA, which surged 10.00% to ₦9.79, and ZICHIS, which climbed 9.97% to ₦29.13, signalling renewed interest in commodities and specialty trading. Aviation also found traction, with SKYAVN posting a robust 9.79% gain to ₦156.95, reflecting appetite for transportation and logistics exposure.
However, significant headwinds emerged in the blue-chip space. UNILEVER recorded the sharpest loss, declining exactly 10.00% to ₦153.00—a move suggesting profit-taking or sectoral rotation away from consumer staples despite its defensive appeal. TRANSEXPR fell 9.92% to ₦6.99, and SOVRENINS dropped 9.81% to ₦2.39, indicating weakness in logistics and financial services segments.
Market liquidity remained constructive, with 64,539 deals executed and ₦32.1 billion in value traded. ACCESSCORP dominated volume with 88.4 million shares, followed by LINKASSURE and STERLINGNG, suggesting institutional rebalancing activity. The market capitalisation stood at ₦161.3 trillion.
The divergence between commodity-linked and traditional blue-chip stocks hints at a tactical repositioning rather than broad market stress. Watch for whether this rotation consolidates or reverses in the next session.
