The Nigerian Exchange closed lower on November 6, with the All-Share Index retreating 0.45% to 248,582.70 points amid a session marked by sectoral divergence. While insurance and consumer stocks posted double-digit gains, heavyweight equities in industrials and financials faced selling pressure.

The NGX concluded Friday's session in red territory, with the All-Share Index losing 0.45% to settle at 248,582.70 points. Despite the overall decline, activity remained robust: 29,438 deals exchanged 259.3 million shares worth ₦18.8 billion, signalling continued investor engagement despite the directional weakness.

The market's performance reflected a classic risk-off rotation. Insurance stocks dominated the gainers' list, with WAPIC and CHAMPION each rising 10.00% to ₦2.20 and ₦8.80 respectively, while MANSARD climbed 9.72% to ₦11.85. This sector outperformance suggests selective appetite for defensive plays. Consumer staples also participated, with HONYFLOUR surging 9.87% to ₦29.50 and simultaneously leading volume charts at 30.1 million shares. This combination indicates institutional accumulation in counter-cyclical positions.

Conversely, significant losses emerged among industrial and consumer discretionary names. PZ fell 9.94% to ₦64.80 on heavy selling, while ELLAHLAKES declined 8.45% to ₦6.50 and ABCTRANS shed 8.06% to ₦5.70. These declines, occurring even as the broader market traded actively, suggest profit-taking or negative sentiment toward specific equities rather than systemic market stress.

Financial heavyweights ACCESSCORP and ZENITHBANK featured among most-traded stocks but failed to generate directional momentum, hinting at consolidation. Market capitalisation settled at ₦161.4 trillion, reflecting the modest decline.

Investors should monitor whether tomorrow's session sustains the insurance sector's momentum or signals a return to broad-based participation.
