The Nigerian Exchange closed lower on Thursday as the All-Share Index declined 1.92% to 249,861.63 points, driven by significant selloffs in heavyweight stocks. Despite modest gains from select counters, broad selling pressure dominated the session with over 783 million shares traded.

Trading activity on the Nigerian Exchange reflected a mixed sentiment on Thursday, 5 November 2026, as the All-Share Index retreated 1.92% to close at 249,861.63 points. The selloff was concentrated among the market's most influential constituents, with cement and agricultural stocks bearing the brunt of investor caution.

DANGCEM and PRESCO emerged as the day's most significant losers, each declining exactly 10%. DANGCEM dropped ₦149.00 to ₦1,341.00, while PRESCO fell ₦184.00 to ₦1,656.80. These twin declines suggest sector-wide profit-taking rather than company-specific concerns. Insurance stocks also weakened, with WAPIC sliding 9.91% and LASACO declining 8.57%, indicating renewed caution in the insurance space.

Gains were limited but present. HONYFLOUR led the gainers with a 9.82% rise, adding ₦2.40 to ₦26.85, and simultaneously ranked fifth in trading volume with 18.89 million shares traded. CWG (NGX: CWG), ABBEYBANK, ETRANZACT (NGX: ETRANZACT), and CAVERTON all posted gains between 8.96% and 9.94%, suggesting selective interest in mid-cap stocks.

Market volume reached 783.7 million shares worth ₦67.8 billion across 29,591 deals. FIRSTHOLDCO (NGX: FIRSTHOLDCO) dominated by volume with 476.4 million shares traded. The market capitalisation stood at ₦162.2 trillion despite the day's losses.

Investors should monitor whether Friday's session stabilises the index or if selling pressure intensifies.
