Nigerian Professor Appointed Dean at University of Saskatchewan

Dr Ibironke Odumosu-Ayanu has been appointed as the Dean of the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, with her tenure commencing on October 1, 2026. She succeeds Professor Martin Phillipson, who completed two five-year terms.

The announcement was made on September 1, 2026, following a search process led by Patti McDougall, Interim Provost and Vice-President, Academic. Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), praised Odumosu-Ayanu's appointment as a remarkable achievement and a source of pride for Nigeria.

Dabiri-Erewa noted that this appointment reflects the contributions of Nigerian professionals to global education and leadership. Odumosu-Ayanu, who was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, has a distinguished academic background, having earned her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Lagos, a master’s degree from the University of Calgary, and a PhD from the University of British Columbia.

Her tenure aims to enhance the College of Law's reputation in legal education and Indigenous legal scholarship.
