Niger APC Primary Crisis Fuels Support for ADC Candidate

The alleged imposition of candidates by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago during the APC primaries has caused significant internal strife within the party, leading to the departure of several dissatisfied members. Many party loyalists feel excluded from the process, prompting the formation of the Niger Rescue Movement (NRM), primarily composed of supporters of former Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.

The NRM, led by Mikail Bmitosahi, the former Chief of Staff to Bello, has officially aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and is urging voters to support the ADC candidate instead of re-electing Bago. Bmitosahi stated that the NRM's decision was based on extensive consultations across Niger State's 25 local government areas, emphasizing the need for a platform that promotes internal democracy and inclusiveness.

The movement plans to campaign on critical issues such as security, job creation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The political landscape in Niger State is expected to shift as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
