Anambra Police Enhance Security Amid Niger Bridge Closure

The Anambra State Police Command has ordered the deployment of operatives to alternative routes used by travelers following the closure of the First Niger Bridge, which began on September 7, 2026, for repair works as announced by the Federal Government. The State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, conducted an inspection of the bridge and the compliance of motorists with the closure, alongside heads of other security agencies.

The assessment aimed to identify potential security, traffic, and public-safety challenges arising from the closure. In response, a Police-led Joint Security Team has been deployed to strategic locations around the bridge and diversionary routes to maintain security, support traffic management, and prevent criminal exploitation of the situation.

The CP has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders in the affected areas to maintain heightened operational alertness, intensified patrols, and ensure coordination with sister security agencies throughout the maintenance period.
