Nigeria's IDEAS Project Equips 38 Technical Colleges

The Nigerian government, with support from the World Bank, has equipped 38 technical colleges, including 20 federal and 18 state institutions, to enhance vocational education through the Innovation Development for Effective Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project. Mrs Blessing Ehi Ogwu, the National Project Coordinator, announced this during an inspection at the Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC) in Orozo, Abuja.
The initiative offers free tuition, training materials, monthly stipends, and starter packs to beneficiaries, aiming to foster economic self-reliance among young Nigerians. The program emphasizes practical skills acquisition, with a curriculum that prioritizes 70% practical training.
Mr Olatunji Odewunmi, the National Project Monitoring Officer, noted that the program is entirely free and includes accommodations for boarding trainees. Biometric attendance monitoring has been implemented to ensure participant commitment, with penalties for non-compliance.
Dr Stella Uhuegbu, Principal of FSTC Orozo, confirmed the college's alignment with the revised technical and vocational education curriculum.
