Nigeria Fencing Team Prepares for Abidjan Championship

The Nigerian fencing team is set to compete in a significant event in Abidjan, starting on May 31, organized by the Nigerian Fencing Federation. Coach Ibrahim Alogba will lead a squad that combines young talent and experienced athletes.

The men's sabre event will see Oluwafolayemi Akinyosoy, currently ranked 65th in the world and Nigeria's highest-ranked athlete, alongside Inkosi, who is ranked 106th globally and making his second appearance at a senior championship. Phoenix Olen will debut in continental competition in the men's epee category.

Other representatives include Diekolola Johnson, Leonard Chizim Aninyei, and Adebodunrin Thoma, who will compete in the women's individual epee event, making her the sole female athlete from Nigeria at the championship. The Nigerian men's epee team will also participate in the team event.

Alogba expressed confidence in the squad's focus and determination to perform strongly against competitors from Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, and other nations.
