Nigeria Pitch Awards Set for September 2026 in Lagos

Dr. Shina Philips, President of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, conveyed optimism regarding the resurgence of Nigerian football during a statement in Abuja. He expressed confidence in the national team players and leagues, asserting that they can overcome recent international competition setbacks.

Philips announced that the 12th edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards Ceremony, initially scheduled for earlier in the year, will now take place on September 8, 2026, at the Ibis Hotel, Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos. He emphasized that hosting the awards demonstrates faith in Nigerian football, highlighting that since the inaugural event in 2013, the awards have recognized players' contributions to the sport.

Philips acknowledged the delay in the ceremony, citing logistical issues despite having trophies ready. The upcoming awards will feature 18 categories, including the King of the Pitch, with nominees such as Ademola Lookman, Calvin Bassey, and Victor Osimhen, and the Queen of the Pitch, featuring Chiamaka Nnadozie, Esther Okoronkwo, and Rasheedat Ajibade.
