Nigeria Strengthens Economic Ties with Germany

Nigeria has called for deeper cooperation with Germany in various sectors, including economic development, security, renewable energy, and digital innovation. This appeal was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, during a bilateral meeting with Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, in Abuja.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu described Germany as one of Nigeria’s key strategic partners in Europe, highlighting the longstanding relationship built on mutual respect and productive cooperation. She noted that the Nigeria-Germany relationship has expanded beyond diplomatic ties to include trade, investment, and development cooperation.

The minister emphasized the need for stronger international partnerships in light of global challenges such as terrorism, climate change, and economic uncertainty. She also acknowledged Germany's support for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and expressed Nigeria's commitment to enhancing cooperation in emerging sectors, with the Nigeria-Germany Bi-national Commission serving as a crucial platform for advancing this partnership.
