Nigeria Targets 5 Million Households for LPG by 2030

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an increase in its target for households to transition to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from one million to five million by 2030. This decision was made during the inaugural meeting of the Nigeria Mission 300 Clean Cooking Technical Working Group, organized by the Compact Delivery and Monitoring Unit (CDMU) in Abuja.
The meeting included various stakeholders, such as government agencies, development partners, financial institutions, private-sector operators, and civil society organizations, to coordinate clean cooking initiatives. Engr. Raphael Chinda, representing the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, stated that the LPG strategy will prioritize affordability, availability, accessibility, and adaptability.
The revised target aims to cover all 774 local government areas, with plans for micro-distribution centers and cylinder distribution campaigns to improve access in underserved communities. A draft financing requirement of $32.8 billion for universal clean cooking and electricity access was also presented, with $1.2 billion allocated specifically for clean cooking.
