Nigeria's Cooking Gas Supply Hits 5,332 Tonnes Daily

In July 2026, Nigeria's domestic cooking gas supply rose to 5,332 tonnes per day, with NLNG/SEPNU contributing 2,031 tonnes per day, accounting for approximately 38% of the total supply, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). Other sources included processing plants supplying 1,513 tonnes per day and the Dangote Petroleum Refinery providing 829 tonnes per day.

Domestic sources supplied 4,373 tonnes per day, representing about 82% of the total, while imports made up 18%. This supply level is the highest recorded in the 13-month period covered by NMDPRA data.

Despite the increase in supply, LPG prices have not fallen below N1,000 per kilogramme, remaining between N1,300 and N1,600 after a previous spike to N2,400/kg. Adeleye Falade, Managing Director and CEO of NLNG, attributed the price surge to supply shortages and distribution issues, stating that NLNG sold LPG to marketers at N800 to N900/kg, while retail prices soared.
