LPG Prices Rise as FG Launches Free Cylinder Program

The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has risen across major depots in Nigeria, with increases of up to 7.3% reported in Lagos, Calabar, and Warri. Notable price hikes include 11Plc raising its price by N70 to N1,020 per kilogramme, NAGAS increasing its price by N30 to N980, Ardova Plc (AP) adding N45 to sell at N985, and NIPCO Lagos increasing its price by N70 to N1,020.

In contrast, Dangote Refinery offers the lowest price at N935 per kilogramme. This price volatility is occurring alongside a Federal Government initiative aimed at making cooking gas more accessible, targeting at least one million households with free LPG cylinders and refills.

The program was launched in Uyo, where initial distributions took place. Despite the government’s efforts, rising LPG prices and increased demand, coupled with declining supply, raise concerns about potential further price increases and shortages in the market.
