Kelechi Mejuobi Named Acting President of Nigeria Referees Association

The Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) has appointed Kelechi Mejuobi as the acting president following the death of Alhaji Sani Zubairu last week. This decision was made during an emergency virtual meeting of the NRA's national executive committee and state executive committee held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Mejuobi, who previously served as the deputy president, will complete the tenure of the late president until an election is conducted. In his acceptance remarks, Mejuobi expressed gratitude to the association's leadership and members for their confidence in him, pledging to deliver transparent, diligent, and inclusive leadership.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing reforms driven by the rediscovery of the NRA agenda, which aims to modernize the association. The appointments made by the late president will remain effective to ensure continuity, including the retention of Alhaji Ibrahim Zailani as a special advisor and ongoing work with an ad hoc committee constituted to review the association's operations.
