Nigeria Partners with TBEA for Local Power Equipment Manufacturing

On September 13, 2026, Nigeria's Federal Government, represented by Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe, secured a commitment from Chinese equipment manufacturer TBEA to establish a power and energy equipment industrial park in Nigeria. This initiative aims to end Nigeria's dependence on imported power equipment and position the country as a regional manufacturing and export hub for critical power infrastructure.

Tegbe, during his working visit to Beijing, emphasized TBEA's role as a long-term strategic partner rather than just a contractor. The partnership is expected to create jobs, develop local suppliers, and retain economic value domestically.

Additionally, TBEA reaffirmed its commitment to expedite ongoing transmission and distribution projects in Nigeria, which could unlock over 2,000MW of stranded generation capacity. Tegbe also advocated for the completion of projects under the Presidential Power Initiative and discussed the expansion of grid infrastructure, including the feasibility of electric-vehicle charging infrastructure as Nigeria transitions towards renewable energy.
