Nigeria and Türkiye Forge Mining Cooperation Agreement

On the sidelines of the Natural Resources Summit in Istanbul, Nigeria and Türkiye signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the mining sector. The agreement, supported by Nigeria's Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alak, aims to leverage Turkish technological expertise in mining exploration and capacity building.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu endorsed the initiative to enhance relations with Türkiye in the mining and energy sectors. The Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, particularly in light of global energy security needs.

He noted that Turkish companies are ready to invest in Nigeria, which is seen as a key gateway for broader economic energy partnerships in Africa. The Nigerian government has introduced reforms in the mining sector over the past three years to improve the operational environment and attract foreign investors, including measures to combat illegal mining activities.
