Nigerian Engineers Abroad Urged to Return for Development

Mr Ibraheem Folarin Bello FNSE, the past chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Ibadan branch, called on Nigerian engineers in the diaspora to return to Nigeria and contribute to the development of the country's engineering sector. He made this appeal while presenting a paper titled “The Role of Diaspora Engineers In The Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry” during a Technical Session hosted by the NSE Manchester branch.

Bello stated that the contributions of diaspora engineers are crucial for the viability of the engineering sector, which cannot rely solely on home-based engineers. He urged these engineers to act as mentors and advocates, leveraging their experiences as national assets.

Bello also called for stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) to create structured pathways for diaspora engineers and to remove barriers to their contributions. He recommended that the government regard diaspora engineers as valuable national infrastructure and ensure their investments are secure.
