Nigerian Navy Responds to Kirikiri Prison Fire Incident

On April 22, 2026, at approximately 11:00 PM, a fire broke out in the residential quarters of Kirikiri Prison, located in Apapa, Lagos State. Initial reports indicated that the fire may have been triggered by an explosion of a gas cylinder, which caused it to spread rapidly to neighboring buildings.

The Nigerian Navy, under the direction of Captain AA Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, responded promptly to the incident. They dispatched personnel and two fire trucks from the Naval Ordnance Depot to the scene, effectively containing the fire and preventing further damage.

The Lagos State Fire Rescue Service also arrived at the scene. Although two buildings were damaged, there were no reported casualties.
