Nigerian Passenger Sues British Airways Over Lost Luggage

Amechi Michael has initiated legal proceedings against British Airways, alleging that the airline lost his luggage during a flight. The case is being heard at the Federal High Court Abuja, with the next hearing scheduled for July 2.

During cross-examination, Michael's counsel, Abiola Olaitan Shuaib, questioned defense counsel John Godwin, who represented British Airways. Michael expressed dissatisfaction with an arbitration decision from the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), which did not address the issue of the missing luggage but awarded compensation related to flight delays.

He contends that British Airways has a duty of care to return his luggage and claims negligence on the part of the airline's staff. The case is formally marked as FHC/ABJ/CS/1293/2025, and the judge presiding over the matter is Justice Obiora Egwuatu.
