Nigerian Troops Kill Bandit Leader, Foil Kidnapping in Kogi

Nigerian troops from the 12 Brigade successfully killed notorious bandit leader Kachalla Ibrahim Battijo during an operation in Kogi State, specifically in Iluk Community, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area. The operation was initiated to prevent a mass abduction of school children who were sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Reports indicated that heavily armed bandits invaded the area, targeting students and unleashing violence. Following a distress call, Nigerian Army forces, alongside local vigilante hunters, engaged in a fierce gun battle with the bandits, resulting in the abandonment of their mission.

During the exchange, Battijo, believed to coordinate several kidnapping operations across North Central and North West Nigeria, was eliminated. Additionally, 15 members of his gang were neutralized, while others escaped with injuries.

Kogi State Governor Ahm Usman Ododo commended the military's efforts, describing the operation as a significant victory against criminal elements. Security agencies are intensifying their manhunt for the fleeing gang members and enhancing surveillance around vulnerable communities and schools.
