NIHSA Launches $500M Flood Preparedness Fund in Nigeria

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) in collaboration with key stakeholders has introduced a $500 million Global Flood Disaster Management Project (GFDMP) to bolster flood preparedness in Nigeria. The initiative, supported by Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari and represented by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to improve early warning systems, infrastructure, and community involvement to mitigate the impact of floods.

The project includes modern forecast tools, real-time monitoring networks, and digital alert systems. Umar Mohammed, Director-General of NIHSA, highlighted the importance of flood resilience and sustainable investments to minimize future losses.

The fundraising campaign aligns with Nigeria's climate resilience agenda.
