NIWA Launches Major Clean-Up Initiative for Waterways

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has initiated a significant clean-up project by engaging Partscentr to restore Nigeria's inland waterways. This initiative is designed to tackle persistent issues such as waste pollution, indiscriminate dumping, and oil spillage that degrade the environment across the country's extensive waterways.

NIWA's Managing Director, Bola Oyebamiji, stated that this project marks a major step towards achieving cleaner and safer inland waterways, which are crucial for attracting local and foreign investments. The initiative will systematically identify major pollution sources, facilitate waste removal, and promote innovative waste-to-wealth solutions that can create employment opportunities for communities along the waterways.

Henri Onifad from Partscentr assured that every aspect of the program would be executed professionally to deliver lasting results. The project aims to enhance the overall efficiency of water transport and contribute significantly to the federal government's agenda for a renewed blue economy, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder collaboration for its success.
