NIWA Launches Safety Campaign in Abuja Amid Rainy Season

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) intensified its safety and environmental protection efforts in Abuja as the rainy season causes rising water levels and increased pollution. On Wednesday, NIWA's Abuja Area/Liaison Office held a Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Campaign in Abaji Area Council.

The campaign emphasized safe navigation practices and environmental stewardship for residents near waterways, aligning with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and federal laws advocating zero tolerance for waterway accidents. Aisha Eri, the Abuja Area Manager, expressed gratitude to the host communities for their cooperation and reaffirmed NIWA's commitment to protecting the nation's inland waters and the livelihoods dependent on them.

The Emir of Kwali, Alhaji Adamu Aguma, praised NIWA's initiative and promised community support for safety regulations. The campaign is part of a nationwide directive from Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for regular engagement with littoral communities, with plans to extend the campaign to other areas next week.
