NJC Suspends Two Judges, Queries 256 for Performance Issues

The National Judicial Council (NJC) suspended two judicial officers for one year without pay due to misconduct and issued queries to 256 judges regarding their performance. These decisions were made during the NJC's 111th meeting, chaired by Hon.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, GCON. The NJC recommended the appointment of 12 new Justices of the Court of Appeal and one candidate for the Benue State High Court, along with two candidates for the Katsina State Sharia Court of Appeal.

Additionally, the NJC extended Justice Ijeoma Agugua's appointment as Acting Chief Judge of Imo State for three more months and reinstated Justice T. N.

Nze of the Imo State Customary Court of Appeal after reviewing new evidence. The NJC rejected appeals from eight judges of the Imo State Judiciary who were compulsorily retired for age falsification, as they did not present sufficient evidence for reversal.

The Council commended nine judges for outstanding performance and approved the retirement of three judicial officers while paying tribute to three deceased judges.
